Reverse VAT Calculator

A reverse VAT calculator is used when you already have the VAT-inclusive total and need to find the original price before VAT. This is useful when checking receipts, supplier prices, invoices or costs that are shown including VAT.

Try reverse VAT with £120 at 20%

How reverse VAT works

To remove VAT, divide the gross amount by 1 plus the VAT rate. For 20% VAT, divide by 1.20.

Net price = Gross price ÷ 1.20
VAT amount = Gross price − Net price

Example: remove 20% VAT from £120

  • Gross price: £120.00
  • Ex VAT price: £100.00
  • VAT included: £20.00

When to use it

Use the reverse VAT option when a price is marked including VAT, inc VAT, VAT inclusive or gross. It helps you find the net amount before VAT was added.
